About Julie Hanks

Licensed psychotherapist Julie Hanks, LCSW has over 20 years in the mental health field providing outpatient psychotherapy services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and multi-problem families with complex mental health and relationship problems. In 2002, Ms Hanks founded Wasatch Family Therapy, LLC, a thriving private outpatient clinic in Salt Lake City, UT. She built her practice from a solo practice to a thriving clinic with 20 therapists and 3 locations...WITHOUT managed care...during an economic downturn.

A graduate from the University of Utah’s Master of Social Work program in 1995, Ms. Hanks is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work (BCD), Board Certified in Practice with Children and their Families, and is currently working toward certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

Ms. Hanks’ desire to make a difference beyond her counseling office fuels her passion to use the media to educate the public on emotional health and family relationship topics. As a regular TV contributor on NBC affiliate KSL TV, a former talk-show host on KJZZ TV, popular relationship columnist, and host of her down-to-earth professionalism and practical advice hit home with viewers and readers. She's been feature on Fox News, TLC, Fox & Friends, & Reelz Channel and quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Cosmo, Women's Health, Woman's Day, Parenting, Readers Digest and others.

Because of her extensive content creation, number of platforms, and amount of engaged followers, Hanks was named the #1 Online influencer for depression and the #2 social health maker for mental health by Sharecare, a health social media site founded by Dr. Oz, Web MD's Jeff Arnold, and Discovery Communications.

She speaks regularly to women’s groups around thecountry on preventing emotional burnout, body image issues, improving communication, and marriage enrichment. Her first book The Burnout Cure: An Emotional Survival Guide For Overwhelmed Women published in 2013, and she will be graduating with her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy in May 2015. Her most valuable education has been in the trenches of family life as a wife of 26 years and mother to 4 children ranging from elementary to college-age. Julie (a.k.a Julie de Azevedo) is also an award-winning inspirational performing songwriter and says songwriting her “therapy”.
